FAQs

In-slab heating uses heating cables embedded in a concrete slab floor to provide heating. The slab stores the heat and releases it to provide continuous warmth during the day. Generally in-slab heating systems are considered for new buildings or projects where they can installed when the slab is poured (although they can also be used in renovations and fitted to some existing buildings).
Under-tile heating is a floor heating system designed more for existing homes with either concrete or timber floors where the heating is provided by cables or heating mats in screed (and often under tiles). This type of heating is also known as 'demand heating' due to its ability to heat up quickly, which makes it very popular for use in tiled areas such as bathrooms.
-
Yes. However, the heating cable must have a screed covering to a minimum depth of 15mm. This ensures adequate heat dispersal and protection for the element.
We recommend low pile wool carpet. Tile heating (or in-screed heating) under carpet is not the same product as a rug heater or carpet heater. Our product is installed as a permanent addition to the floor surface and cannot be seen when you lift the rug or carpet thereafter.
-
No, the operating temperature will not damage the slab. The sun generally heats the exposed floor to temperatures considerably higher than this.
-
Yes, a solar system is perfect for lowering the running costs of floor heating. Any excess power produced from the solar can be used to run the floor heating.
-
Yes, floor heating is compatible with various flooring materials, including tile, hardwood, laminate, carpet, and even concrete. The choice of flooring may affect the heating system's efficiency and performance.
Please contact your flooring supplier for compatibility advice.
-
Retrofitting existing floors with heating is possible, but it may require raising the floor level, which can affect door clearance and room height. It's essential to consider these factors during the planning stage.
-
Floor heating can take some time to reach the desired temperature, typically around 30 - 60 minutes if installed correctly.
-
It is recommended to have floor heating installed by a professional to ensure proper installation and safety.
All electrical connections and testing must be preformed by a licensed electrician.

Elektra Australia & P.A.P. Heating Solutions Warranty Guide
Warranty Coverage & Duration
20-Year Cable Warranty
Elektra underfloor heating cables are backed by a 20-year warranty for any manufacturing faults or defects. This warranty provides long-term protection and peace of mind that your heating system will perform reliably and remain free from manufacturing defects for decades of normal use.
Thermostat WarrantyThermostats and controllers are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, typically 2–3 years from the date of purchase. Any failure of the thermostat due to manufacturing defects within that period will be rectified by repair or replacement as per the thermostat manufacturer’s terms. After the standard thermostat warranty period, any service or replacement is at the manufacturers or supplier’s discretion.
Scope of Coverage
If a heating cable is confirmed to have failed due to a manufacturing defect within the 20-year period, P.A.P. Heating Solutions (in partnership with Elektra Australia) will repair or replace the faulty cable at no cost. This includes the heating element itself and, if applicable, reasonable labour to restore the floor surface (e.g. lifting and replacing tiles) to its original condition. In the unlikely event that a cable fault cannot be traced or repaired, we may opt to provide a replacement system or offer a refund equivalent to the original purchase price (including the cost of installation). Our goal is to ensure you are not out-of-pocket for legitimate warranty issues that arise from product defects.
Note: The 20-year cable warranty is applicable to the original floor covering under which the heating system was installed. If that floor covering is removed or replaced, the warranty for the cable may not remain in effect for the new floor (since alterations can introduce new variables outside our control). Always consult us before making changes to flooring that contains an embedded heating system.
